The Designer Edit – Part One

Well, currently because I’m always discovering a new brand or designer. I love keeping up with what various brands have to offer so I wanted to share five of my current favourite brand/designer. Below I showcase a short summary of each and some visuals to go, so you get the idea of what each brand individually has to offer (although I did keep the images brief or else this post would be super long). I’ve also left the brands website links so you can check them out and see what I’ve been raving about.

The Row,

Established by Mary-Kate and Ashely Olsen, the brand is all about tailored, contemporary designs. I love the brand just from the site itself and runway collections I’ve seen online. You can easily pick up that it speaks to quality. I’m personally a huge fan of the Olsen twins (Mary-Kate in particular for her down-to-earth look) and have been following them for years. I also look for inspiration via their multi-category luxury brand Elizabeth & James. Check out their brand which has various designs in both men and women fashion items, bags, shoes and even a collection of home accessories under their “galeri” section on the site.

Additional Info: Elizabeth & James is a luxury brand rooted in effortless dressing and vintage inspiration. Think playful and sophisticated sensibility.

Jil Sander,

A MINIMAL designer that I’ve definitely been sleeping on. Who would have thought that I’d only discover Jil Sander’s early this year. Yes, I said it, only in the year 2020. Having studied fashion design in the year 2016, I realised that I only seemed interested in well-known fashion houses like Versace, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana etc, that I missed out on actually making myself more aware and open to knowing other brands and designers. I love how the Jil Sander brand has shopper bags (In case you missed it, I did a recycle bag edit. Read here: Trendy Shopper Bags). Although it’s obviously on the pricier side but nonetheless check out this luxury brand. Effortless, minimal and very contemporary designed items.

I fall in love with the brand every time I go through the ‘Knitwear and Jersey’ section on the site. I recommend you check it out.

Jacquemus,

Founded by Simon Porte Jacquemus, the French designer showcases how art influences him through fashion items he designs which are evocative dresses, exaggerated shapes and show-stopping accessories such as the infamous ‘hotly coveted le’chiquito’ bag. Jacquemus is the ‘it’ designer for style inspiration and contemporary designs. Jacquemus published a ‘IMAGES’ book which gathers photos taken by him on his phone. Guess what? out of 85 041 photos he only published 321. So, if that’s not relatable I don’t know what is.

Magda Butrym,

Founded in the year 2014 by designer Magdalena Butrym and her business partner Aleksandra Halemba, is the go-to brand for women seeking modern designs with the finest fabrics and traditional craftsmanship. Hand-finished details including pleating, crocheting and embroidery. What I personally love is that Butrym saw something which women were missing, delivered it and watched customers including bloggers, public figures etc flock to it (now that’s a designer attitude I yearn to have). Its all about a lack of elegance and sophistication in the every day woman and the brand fills exactly that.

Loewe,

A Spanish luxury fashion house founded by Enrique Loewe Roessberg. The brand is known for specialising in leather goods, fashion items, fragrances and house goodies. The brand itself is so diverse (which I honestly didn’t know because of the woven tote bag that was flooding timelines). I know now that the brand specialises in craft, books, art projects and campaigns. I love the dresses because of how versatile and functional they are. I’m personally not big on the shoes range but it’s nonetheless an amazing brand.
