Hi Loves! I’m back with another designer edit where I’ll be sharing 5 designers or brands that I’ve either recently discovered or I just lean towards for fashion inspiration. So, I’ve done this before on the site, if you haven’t seen the posts you can check out part one [ Read Here : https://hautaesthetics.com/2020/10/01/the-designer-edit/ ] and for part two [ Read Here : https://hautaesthetics.com/2020/11/14/the-designer-edit-part-two/. While you’re at it do scroll down and check out my recent designer or brand discovery but with a twist. As they say in South Africa ‘local is lekker’ check out brands that are exactly that.
1. Sindiso Khumalo
Cape Town based clothing brand focused on sustainability, craft and empowerment. Khumalo founded her eponymous label with a focus on creating modern sustainable textiles with a strong emphasis on African storytelling. The textile designs in her collections are hand made through watercolours and collage. Developing a uniquely colourful visual voice which draws upon her Zulu and Ndebele heritage and also speaks to the land of KwaZulu Natal, where she is from. Her work has been published in Vogue Italia, VOGUE UK, Elle Magazine and the Marie Claire Magazine.

2. SELFI
Cape Town based ready-to-wear bespoke clothing brand. The global modern women, the brand is carefully centred around self-empowerment, well-being and sustainability. An artisan design approach, each collection is carefully crafted by a small team of 4 women working with some of the most ethically sourced fabrics.

3. Rich Mnisi
South African based contemporary fashion designer Rich Mnisi is a young designer with a heart for the world of pop culture. With a strong connection with young creatives and keeps a contemporary outlook, sourcing visions outside the fashion realm and pushing boundaries on gender blurs. With both his menswear and womenswear line, the explorer aims to enhance daily expressions and storytelling blended through film, music, art and nature. Rich has established a African label ready to take the global market by storm.

4. Better Half
A celebration of love for bygone eras. A celebration of love for slow fashion, for quality over quantity for timeless pieces that transcend through the decades, but most importantly for one another and our planet, by promoting sustainable choices.

5. Liv and Light
Sisters passionate about slow and conscious consumerism, drawing and nature for inspiration, uplifting and conserving where possible. Products are handmade as well as the need to move away mass consumerism by producing a limited number of each design and item. And where possible they use natural elements to make every piece and do they best to tread as lightly as they can do for the planet.
