Meet Masie Khusi, Professional Chef, Aspiring Fashion Designer & Social Media Manager

HAUT : Describe what you do
MASIE : I am a professional chef and an aspiring fashion designer (follow @khoosie I will be launching soon). I also do social media managing for @vox.officiel.

HAUT : What’s your skin type
MASIE : I have oily skin and weirdly enough – I love it!

HAUT : Tell us about your current skin care routine
MASIE : My job is extremely demanding, I work long ours in a hot kitchen and that can do a number on ones skin so a good skincare routine is a must! Believe it or not my skincare routine starts with prayer, this started during our first lockdown where my skincare got so bad that I started praying about it getting better. I always start off with Gentle Magic soap to remove dirt/sweat and excess oil on my face. I love this soap because it leaves my face feeling fresh and clean. I then follow up with the Gentle Magic Exfoliating Mask which exfoliates my skin while still keeping it hydrated! After rinsing that off I use my Dermalogica Clay Cleanser (I love this product because it leaves my skin feeling so smooth) and it’s great for spots. Next on my routine is the Gentle Magic Toner – I have oily skin and this is perfect because it minimizes the appearance of pores and controls oil. To give my face a natural glow I use the Gentle Magic Moisturizer which I sometimes use with any sunscreen (current favourite SPF is from Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel). And last but not least is my lip scrub from Body Treats – guys, lip care IS also a part of skin care. What I love about lip scrubs is that you can whip one up in your kitchen! This is my daily routine, then 2-3 times a week I’ll add a deep exfoliating mask, using the Himalayan Charcoal.

HAUT : What’s one thing you wished you learned sooner with regards to skin (yours in particular)
MASIE : Just because it works for someone doesn’t mean it will work for me. I’m the kind of person who wants to try EVERY product. If it cleared your skin in less than 3 weeks, SIGN ME UP! Trying new products is fine however not everything will work for you, especially if you have sensitive skin like me.

HAUT : Your favourite skincare brand
MASIE : I swear by Gentle Magic! And the bonus for me is that it’s so affordable.

HAUT : What’s the last skin care product you finished and would you purchase it again?
MASIE : The last skincare product I finished was Dudu Osan Black Soap. I started using it last month and it’s been working so well for me. I absolutely love it! I’ll be restocking soon.

HAUT : Any skin care tricks or tips to share
MASIE : This goes against 99% of skincare product rules but listen – do NOT avoid the eye area (unless using harsh chemicals). Our eye area is rather sensitive however some products do plump and glow up the eye area without damaging the skin. Avoiding the eye area makes me look like the skeleton emoji so when I do my routine I apply those products everywhere!

HAUT : Skincare words of encouragement
MASIE : As cliché as this may sound, skincare is a journey. I learned this the hard way. I’ve always dreamed of perfectly clear skin and at times I’d look at my spots/pimples and feel so ugly. However, this all changed when I started speaking what I wanted to see. Spots or not, God created me wonderfully and beautifully meaning that I am beautiful right now with my spots and I’ll still be as beautiful when my skin is completely clear. Skincare is a journey. You are beautiful even before you’ve reached your destination.
