You can imagine my reaction once I realized that Rubi under Cotton On recreated a shoe similar to the Ginza flip flops. And if you’ve never heard of these I’m speaking about the platform flip-flops which have already started showing up all over our social media feeds, solidifying themselves as the style of summer. The Row can once again certainly be credited for sparking the return of these 90s shoes thanks to modernized luxury iteration of the ‘it’ shoe of the season. These flip-flops may look familiar, and have also appeared in 90s teenage shows and films. They also look like they are straight from a Mary-Kate and Ashley straight-to-VHS film from the 90s (I mean, they are the designers of the brand). This particular style of shoes have unsurprisingly also started to pop up across contemporary and high-street brands ranging from both underbudget to pricey dupes (not as expensive as The Row though). Brands ranging from Mango, Arket , Neous, Topshop, Charles & Keith, & Other Stories, Cotton On, to name a few, have recreated this item with a little bit of unique detailing on the shoe and adding elements to it making it same, but different.
I recently got these from Cotton On and of course I’m obsessed. I think that I’ve wanted these for so long that I’m looking forward to styling them throughout the spring and summer. The Row also happens to be one of my favourite designer brands [ Read Here: The Designer Edit – Part One ]. I’ve personally been a follower of both Ashely and Mary-Kate Olsen’s style since I was super young and have always admired they form of style in all their brands so having something this close to an item they’ve created feels good. How I plan on styling them? As minimal as I can ranging from simple pieces like cardigans, pants, basic t-shirts and dresses. A statement with these on, look trendy and fashionable as I’ve seen styled before so that’s something I look forward to doing.
If you still need convincing, below is an edit of similar Ginza inspired flip flops.
